Gunmen kill four, injure scores in Benue

Four persons were, yesterday, allegedly killed by gunmen that attacked mourners during the burial of an elderly woman at Mbayatyo Mbater Council Ward in Logo Council of Benue State.

Four persons were, yesterday, allegedly killed by gunmen that attacked mourners during the burial of an elderly woman at Mbayatyo Mbater Council Ward in Logo Council of Benue State.

A witness, Semena, said invaders stormed the wake venue at about 2.00a.m. and started shooting sporadically. Many mourners scampered for safety.

He said four persons, including a commander in the just-established Community Volunteer Guards in Logo, were feared dead.
He said injured persons were taken to the hospital and were currently receiving treatment.

A community leader, Chief Joseph Anawah, confirmed that four people were killed on the spot, while the injured were taken to the hospital.

The Council Chairman, Terseer Agber, said the matter had already been reported to the police.

“The attack happened about 2.00a.m.during an elderly woman’s funeral wake…”

“Initially, the mourners did not know what was happening. The gunmen shot sporadically into the air. Stray bullet hit some people and four died on the spot while five were critically wounded and are receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Ugba.
