Former House of Representatives member, Herman Hembe, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State after securing victory in the party’s primary election.
Hembe reportedly polled 46,526 votes to defeat his closest rival, Peter Adejoh, who scored 31,990 votes, while Joseph Waya came third with 26,916 votes in a contest described by party officials as peaceful and transparent.
Announcing the result, the party’s returning officer said the exercise reflected internal democracy within the ADC, noting that all aspirants were given equal opportunity during the process.
In his acceptance remarks, Hembe expressed appreciation to party members for their support, describing the outcome as a collective decision aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also extended an olive branch to other contestants, urging them to put aside differences and work together to build a stronger political front capable of winning the governorship election.
The development positions Hembe as a key contender in Benue’s 2027 political race, where he is expected to face candidates from other major parties in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive contest.
