Suspected hoodlums, yesterday, attacked some ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) camped at Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja. They destroyed some ballots boxes in the units.
INEC ad hoc official, who identified herself as Joe, said: “The hoodlums were armed. When we saw them, we ran away because there were no security personnel around.
“When we ran away, they destroyed some of our Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) manchines. Thank God, none of our members was injured. For now, we have accredited more than 100 voters.”
They arrived at the polling unit during the voters’ accreditation exercise and chased both the INEC staff and voters away.
One voter also lamented that she lost her voters’ card during the process and could not vote.
The security personnel, who arrived at the scene at the time of this report, appealed for calm.
They advised the INEC officials to use the remaining BVAs for accreditation.
