“DJs are an underrepresented minority in Nigeria and most parts of Africa. I created InterSpace Sound System to allow Disk Jockeys an equal opportunity to reach new audiences and listeners from every part of the world,” says Eric Okechukwu.
The founder of the creative agency, InterSpace Sound System, Okechukwu, in a chat, delved into ways he hopes to change the face of music and entertainment in Nigeria and beyond, and how he intends to start that journey from where he is based currently.
The nightlife culture in Nigeria is widely considered the ripest moment for DJs to come alive. But that narrative is being downed by a daring pop-up jam, InterSpace Sound System.
“We allow established DJs to exhibit their talents and give younger DJs the leverage of their lifetime to shine on our platform. We’re turning bedroom mixes into a culture,” he added.
The first batch of the InterSpace Sound System DJ mixes came off successfully to massive applause as people delved into a world of sound ranging from pop, house, electronic, hip hop and Amapiano to our West African trademark of Afrobeats.
The name ‘Wave 2.0’, coined for the event, was apparent as the DJs took the expectant listeners through different states of euphoria and vivacity.
The Back Outside batch of mixes is set to come off on all streaming platforms on Friday, December 16, 2023.
The eclectic mix of sounds from Afrobeats music down to hip-hop and hip-life enriched the space.
To the team at InterSpace, this is more than a series of mixtapes being curated but an entire shift of culture.
This is the bending of norms as these curated events will change the face of party culture in Nigeria and globally put the country on the map for unearthing emerging DJs from the continent.
The team of InterSpace Sound System teases us about an upcoming music event just around the corner.
