“I am True Fan, Sort of possessed -Actress Julia Roberts on Man Utd
A-list Hollywood actress Julia Roberts recently shared her unwavering support for Manchester United, expressing how she and her family became devoted fans.
During her appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Roberts revealed that her love for football and the club grew after attending a pre-season game between Manchester United and Arsenal in New York. The actress has also visited Old Trafford on previous occasions.
When asked about her journey to becoming a United fan, Roberts explained, “I’ve been to Old Trafford, I’m a true fan… We just got so into it, and somehow Manchester United just became our team, the Moder family team. We became sort of possessed.”
Interestingly, Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, expressed his admiration for Roberts but expressed disappointment that she chose to visit United over City during her time in Manchester.
In his words; “Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex [Ferguson] was winning titles and titles and titles. She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right? She went to visit Man United. She didn’t come to see us. That’s why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn’t come to see us.”
Roberts’ cherished team, Manchester United, is set to play at St James’ Park, aiming to strengthen their bid for Champions League qualification this season. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe believes everyone is against his side, including the Hollywood star tonight.
