Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, said he confronted the All Progressives Congress (APC) on why Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was not picked as the presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

Obi stated this on Tuesday when he visited Dele Momodu at his London home to celebrate the Ovation Magazine publisher’s 63rd birthday.

The former Anambra governor said Osinbajo is who the APC should have put forward if indeed they have the nation’s interest at heart.

“I’m interested to see Nigeria work, I don’t hide it, any day, anytime,” Obi said.

“I even confronted APC, asking why didn’t you bring Osinbajo, let’s have the place working for everybody, so that we have people who want to work for the country and are healthy and good.”

He said the person the APC has brought out (Bola Tinubu) might have been a great candidate 20 years ago.

Obi, who finished third in the presidential election polling 6,101,533 votes, said country at this hour needs someone who can work round the clock.

Tinubu won the election after scoring a total of 8,794,726 votes. Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 6,984,520 votes.

However, the result of the presidential election is being challenged by the Labour Party and PDP in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday adjourned to Friday, May 19 for continuation of pre-hearing in the petition by candidate of the Labour Party Obi against Tinubu.
