
Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi has assured that his administration would give priority attention to sports.
The governor gave the assurance on Sunday in Bauchi, at the 2016 Award Night ceremony for successful media houses at the state Sports Writers Association of Nigeria’ (SWAN), games competition.
He commended the association for organising the tournament, stressing that it would foster unity among practicing journalists in the state.
Abubakar called on the leadership of the association to commence early preparation for 2017 SWAN Week.
The governor also called on journalists in the state, to engage in developmental reporting.
Earlier, the Chairman of SWAN, Bauchi chapter, Nasiru Kobi called on the governor to sponsor members to cover international tournaments.
Kobi said the gesture would boost the moral of members in reporting both local and international events.
He noted that the state chapter had failed to organise SWAN week for more than five years due to lack of finance.
Kobi called on the governor to assist clubs in the state and rehabilitate facilities such as; swimming pool, indoor sports complex to boost sporting activities.
He commended the Technical Adviser to Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, Abdullahi Mai-Kaba, for his decision to stay with the team for the 2015/2016 season in spite of challenges.
The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, the Nigeria Television Authority, Bauchi and the Bauchi State Television came first, second and third respectively at the award ceremony.
