Residents of Ibeju Lekki, a suburb in Lagos State, yesterday, lamented neglect by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC). The residents said they had been plagued by persistent power outages and poor maintenance of electrical infrastructure, leading to frustration and inconvenience for electricity consumers.

They said that their numerous complaints to the electricity distribution company had yielded little or no response or action. However, expressing concern over the persistent lack of electricity supply in the entire Ibeju-Lekki Local Council, Executive Chairman of the council, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, alongside representatives of #End Darkness in Ibeju Lekki, led by Pastor Oluwasegun Odubote and Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Fatai Alonge, in a crucial meeting with Managing Director of EKEDC, Dr. Tinuade Saka, sought urgent intervention from the DisCo.

Olowa emphasised that a reliable power supply is essential for economic development and improved living conditions in Ibeju-Lekki. In response to the concerns raised, Saka outlined immediate interventions, noting that EKEDC plans to evaluate and assess the electricity infrastructure across Ibeju-Lekki, focusing on feeder stations like Elemoro, Eleko and Ibeju. She said that by the end of the month, Eleko feeder would be restored.
