The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has called for partnership with the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Engineering Materials Development Institute (EMDI) to promote a corrupt-free society.

ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, gave the charge in Akure, the Ondo State capital, during a three-day training for ACTU members, organised by the EMDI in collaboration with the ICPC.

Owasanoye, who was represented by Mr. Olayinka Ayegbayo, said that members of the ACTU had a significant role to play in creating a sanitised system and workplace through their mandate, urging them to corporate with the ICPC.

He said the capacity building would further give them the requisite knowledge in winning the fight against corruption in their MDAs.

In his welcome speech, Managing Director of EMDI, Dr. Samuel Olusunle, who was represented by Head of Human Resources of the institute, Mrs. Faosat Yusuf, said: “The fight against corruption is a battle for different souls of countries and it is one that we must win.

“Since Independence, the continent has suffered consequences of corruption and it is imperative we take steps to reverse the trend.”

Olusunle said the training was an opportunity to help curb and build a system that focuses on preventing corruption.

He added that aside serving as an impetus to all EMDI members of staff in avoiding corrupt practices in the society, it would also strengthen ACTU EMDI Unit to discharge their duties more efficiently.

In his remarks, ACTU Chairman, Mr. Gbenga Akinbobola, said this is the right time to rise up against corruption, lamenting that the entire work system in Nigeria has collapsed.

Akinbobola, however, stressed that there is need to urgently rise and correct the pervasive anomalies in most sectors by fighting against the corruption.
