ICPC ex-Chairman, Ayoola, is dead

A former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola, is dead. He was 90.

A close source, who confirmed the passing of the retired justice to The Guardian, said that Ayoola died on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Ayoola, born on October 27, 1933, retired from the Supreme Court in 2003 at the mandatory age of 70.

He was appointed Chairman of the ICPC in 2005 by then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Meanwhile, the Ayoola family has announced his demise, saying: “With gratitude to God for a life well lived, we announce the death of Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola (rtd).”

The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of tributes and condolences.

Justice Ayoola was a highly respected jurist known for his brilliance, integrity, and commitment to justice.

He served the nation with distinction, leaving an indelible mark on the judiciary. His contributions to the development of Nigerian law and jurisprudence will be deeply missed. The legal community and beyond will mourn the loss of this judicial icon.
