The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has started tracking executive and constituency projects across the 27 local councils of Borno State.
The projects are in the education, health, water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sectors of the economy.
According to the commission, the 70 projects, worth N7.3 billion, are sited in various parts of the state.
The ICPC’s Principal Superintendent in the state, Abubakar Gujja, who unfolded the tracked projects, yesterday, in Maiduguri, said: “The projects’ tracking exercise is on the behest of the commission’s Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye. The Maiduguri Dental and Eye Hospitals are part of the projects’ tracking exercise in the state.
“Our chairman is not alone in this initiative. He is carrying along the entire board members of the ICPC to ensure transparency and accountability to people living in various constituencies.
He said the tracking exercise would ensure fraud-free execution of all executive and constituency projects appropriated in the budget.
Gujja, therefore, urged the police and other security agencies to escort the commission’s field personnel to project sites prone to Boko Haram enclaves.
He added: “Our aim is to ensure satisfactory completion and usage of the projects appropriated in the budget,” The projects’ tracking exercise will last for two weeks.
“Wherever the commission observes any discrepancies or infractions in the execution of any project during the tracking exercise, they will be recommended in the report.
“We’ll compile the report after the exercise and urge the contractors to return to site or we recommend for the recovery of money paid for the contracts.”
