Member representing Owan Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, yesterday, condemned the violence that characterised last Saturday’s House of Assembly election in some parts of Edo State.

The federal lawmaker also described the elections as desperation taken to the extreme by those seeking to represent the people.

Ihonvbere, who was reelected for a second term, gave the condemnation in a statement made in Benin by his Senior Aide on Media and Public Affairs, Joshua Iraoya.

The lawmaker referred, particularly, to Owan West Council, where he alleged that violence engulfed Sobe community.

Earlier, a former Governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, had decried destruction of voting materials in 10 units out of 17 in Sobe community.

The communities, Oshiomhole said, were places huge votes were recorded in favour of All Progressives Congress(APC).

Ihonvbere also claimed that most of the polling units, where APC expected huge votes, were invaded by suspected PDP thugs.

The lawmaker, who is the chairman of, House Committee on Basic Education and Services, further alleged that the suspected thugs randomly fired shots and threatened women with cutlasses and sticks, thereby scaring away voters before carting away ballot boxes and other electoral materials.
