IITA tasks African leaders on agriculture
Director-General of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Dr. Nteranya Sanginga, has charged African leaders, especially Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to show more commitment and investment in modernised agriculture with a view to ensuring food security.
Sanginga, during an interactive session with reporters to celebrate his two years in the office yesterday in Ibadan, said: “Most of the challenges confronting the continent like unemployment, youth unrest, crime, political instability and economic instability, would be brought under control.”
The IITA DG, a citizen of DRC and the first African to occupy the position, decried the disposition of African leaders to agriculture development despite the abundance of natural and human resources.
