ABIA STATE Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed appreciation to those, who attended the burial of his late mother, Deaconess Bessie Ikpeazu, on Friday pledging that her legacies would be kept alive by the family. He thanked God for the exemplary life she lived on earth.

At the thanksgiving service held in her honour yesterday at his Umuobiakwa village’s Seventh Day Adventist Church in Obingwa council, the governor thanked members of the church and Umuobiakwa community for their understanding and support during the ceremony.

In his sermon entitled: ‘Ask and receive’, the president of Aba East Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor Joel Ubani predicted the imminent coming of Christ, hence he advised Christians to seek everlasting life rather than ephemeral things.

Seasoned politicians, top government officials, friends and family friends of the governor graced the event.

Among the dignitaries were Governors David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Ayo Fayose of Ekiti, Ben Ayede of Cross River, Emma Udom of Akwa-Ibom, Rochas Okorocha of Imo and the deputy governor of Anambra Dr. Ikem Okeke.

Also in attendance were former governors, Peter Obi, Chukwuemeke Ezeife, former deputy governors Chris Akomas and Acho Nwakanma , Emeka Ananaba all of Abia state and Chairman of the state’s PDP, Senator Emma Nwaka.

Lawmakers included Senators Theodore Orji, Enyi Abaribe, Ike Ekweremadu, Abia State lawmakers among others including Prince Arthur Eze, Ambassador Ojo Maduekwe.

In his tribute to Okorocha urged the people on the need to live worthy lives like Madam Ikpeazu, saying: “What matters is what one would be remembered for when one dies. God will judge all according to their deeds.”

In the family tribute read by Bessie’s only daughter Mrs. Edith Ocheze Ugboaja, Madam Bessie was described as a kind, loving, honest, straight forward, transparent and God fearing woman and peace maker.
