I’m not gunning to be Tinubu’s Chief of Staff — el-Rufai
Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai of Kaduna State has laid to rest, insinuations regarding his next political move when his tenure expires as governor.
Contrary to rumours being peddled that he was gunning to be appointed the Chief of Staff to President-elect, Bola Tinubu, he said nothing could be further from the truth.
According to him, after leaving office as governor, he would rather retire to private business, and make himself available whenever his intervention, attention, or contribution was needed.
Speaking in Gombe State during the launching of the State Information and Geographic Service (GOGIS), Rufai said: “I have 22 days more to be in office; I won’t be any chief of staff, I will go to the private sector … I shall be available for service to Gombe whenever called upon.”
Earlier, he disclosed that the entire All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership was shaken when their presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, lost the election in Gombe. Their fear was that the outcome would affect the governorship election.
Rufai said: “We were worried about the fate of Governor Inuwa Yahaya when we heard that Tinubu lost in Gombe. But you people have shown that you are systemic in choosing your leaders; you have separated the whiff from the chaff and may lose
He commended his host for strides in mapping the entire state boundaries and the development that his administration has brought about.
“Now the country has over 200 million people; by 2050, it will be 400 million. Don’t forget that as the human population increases, the landmass remains. This is why any responsible government must take action like Governor Yahaya is doing. Government must know its boundaries – certified land towards enhancing revenue from it.”
Governor Yahaya in his remarks, however, described his guest as a courageous face in nation-building.
