Immigration arrests two foreigners with gun, charms in Katsina
An exchange of gunfire between officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and two foreigners suspected to be criminals has led to their arrest of the latter in Katsina State.
The incident occurred at the Farin Gida checkpoint along the Daura-Kongolam road when the suspects were on their way out of the country.Parading the suspects late Thursday evening, NIS Comptroller in the state, Bin Umar Yakubu Ahmed, said the suspects, who were riding on a motorcycle, made efforts to escape when his men on duty tried to stop them for a routine check.
Ahmed identified the suspects as Mohammed Abdullahi, 25, from Gadori in Damagaran region, and one simply identified as Dadi from Tasawa region, all in Niger Republic.He said his men became suspicious when they saw that the two were avoiding the routine check and decided to trail them, which resulted in a shootout, during which one of them (suspects) was shot in the leg, adding that a search on them revealed a pistol, an empty bullet cartridge, several laptops and handsets, as well as numerous charms.
He said the suspects would be handed over to the Police for further investigation, assuring that the NIS would continue to be steadfast in carrying out its duties along the country’s border routes.
