In a protest march that disrupted economic and social activities on Tuesday, the protesters regretted that after toiling hard for the corporation, especially risk their lives during the last polls by standing by the governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, amid other contestants, they were not paid during the period.
The protesting group made up of the Radio Television Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and Nigeria Union of Civil Stenographic Workers (NUCSSASW), led by Bishop Tony Eluchia, regretted that the governor’s declaration of paying the state’s civil service did not affect them, as they were yet to be paid.
The newly appointed Secretary to the State Government, Jude Ejiogu, who promised to send the message to Okorocha, was worried that the protesters were unable to carry their grievances through the proper channel before marching through the streets, adding that the government have been paying members of staff as a matter of priority.
