Professor of engineering, University of Lagos, Funsho Falade, has implored government at all levels to increase budgetary allocations to education. Speaking at an inaugural lecture, titled: ‘The beginning and the end of a project’, Falade stressed the need for improved infrastructure across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.
He lamented that education has not been properly taken care of, saying that was why the sector lagged behind other countries in the sector.
The professor, who has been in the academia since 1986, lamented poor conditions of service in the education sector. Falade pleaded with government to adequately fund education and adequately pay teachers in general and university teachers in particular.
He lamented that a professor earned less than $500 a month after two decades of service, which he described as a tragic development. He advised professors to identify products or services aligned with their expertise, towards making additional income alongside their teaching assignments.
