INEC declares Kogi governorship election inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Kogi State governorship election conducted on Saturday inconclusive because the number of cancelled votes was greater than the margin between the votes for the two main contenders, Abubakar Audu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Idris Wada of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Commission is yet to announce the date for supplementary elections.

The results of the elections from 21 local government areas in the State announced by INEC show that Audu of APC polled a total of 240, 867 votes while incumbent governor and candidate of tne PDP had 199, 514 votes.

The Returning Officer, Emmanuel Kucha, said the margin between the votes for the two leading contenders amounts to 41, 353 while the total number of cancelled votes is 49, 953 from 91 polling units, in 18 local government areas.
