INEC extends PVC collection deadline

The Independent Electoral Commission has extended the Permanent Voters Card collection deadline from Friday, 8th February to Monday, 11th February.

This was announced by the commission’s chairman Mahmood Yakubu during a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners at the commission’s headquarters, Abuja.

“In the last couple of days, we have been inundated by calls, from Nigerians to review the current process of collection of Permanent Voters Cards,” Mahmood said on Friday.

“In response, the Commission has taken the following decisions, NEC extends deadline for collection of PVCs from Friday 8th February to Monday 11th February 2019. This will include Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 6pm,” he added.

The commission also stated that after the Monday deadline PVCs that are yet to be collected will be deposited at the central bank for safekeeping.

“We wish to reiterate that after the deadline of Monday 11th February 2019, all uncollected PVCs will be recalled and deposited with the CBN for safe-keeping until after the General Elections when the collection of cards and the continuous registration of voters will resume,” Mahmood said.

The extension of the PVC collection comes seven days to the Presidential election. Nigeria will be going to poll on Saturday, February 16 to vote in a new president.

71 candidates are bidding for the presidential seat include Nigeria’s incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.
