INEC moves to deepen democratic principles
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday said over 800 pre-election cases were in the various courts across the federation.
Consequently, it has decided to strengthen the capacity of its officers to sanitise the entire process and deepen democratic principles.
The Enugu Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Emeka Ononamadu, who stated this in Enugu at a one-day workshop to review this year’s general elections in the state, stressed that a credible electoral process was the key to the nation’s development and economic growth.
He urged stakeholders, especially politicians, to abide by the rules and regulations for the enthronement of free, fair and credible polls to advance democracy.
Ononamadu said not abiding by electoral rules had led to lack of internal democracy in political parties.
