INEC worker held over alleged diversion of election materials

A STAFF of Kogi State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspected to be behind the diversion of ballot papers meant for seven units in supplementary election at Ajaokuta Local Government Area has been arrested by the state police command.

Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kogi State Mr. Hussaini Halilu Pai, who spoke to The Guardian in a telephone interview, confirmed that one of his staff suspected to be behind the fraud was cooling his heels with the police as he is being investigated for the missing ballot papers.

Pai during a stakeholders meeting on the issue announced the rescheduling of the election in the affected Local Government for Tuesday 28th April 2015 (today) following the violence that erupted over the diversion of the ballot papers.

Chairman Inter-Party Advisory Council Honorable Ibrahim Itodo said ‎accreditation was properly conducted in the election in a peaceful manner, adding that card readers were used effectively.

“But at the point of issuing out ballot papers the people waited in vain as there were no ballot papers. Security was alerted and the police arrested all those connected with the missing ballot papers and the violence that followed.”
