Insecurity slows EU projects in Borno, says reports
UNDP, state engage 12,162 youths for waste management
Insecurity has remained the main challenge confronting European Union (EU) Support and Coordination Projects in Borno State (SCEUBS).
The security challenges have slowed EU partners’ implementation of funded projects to only 70 to 92 per cent. The implementation alarms were raised, yesterday, in the SCEUBS bi-weekly report released to The Guardian in Maiduguri.
MEANWHILE, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the state government, has engaged 12,162 youths in the management of waste in Maiduguri metropolis, Bama and Biu local councils.
The engagements are funded under the EU support Sustainable Waste Management and Environment Protection (SWMP project in the state.
These were made known in the Borno State Monthly Report (BMP), released to The Guardian in Maiduguri, yesterday.
“The current cash-for-work activities are addressing the hygiene situation in 29 communities of Maiduguri metropolis,” said the report.
