The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, has charged Commanders at all levels to intensify warrior ethos and regimentation in the Nigerian Army towards creating bonds, cohesion and discipline required for successful military operations.

The COAS gave the charge when he declared open a seminar on Intensifying Warrior Ethos and Regimentation in the Nigerian Army organised by the Department of Transformation and Innovation Army at Headquarters 3 Division, Jos.

Yahaya said with the myriad of complex security challenges bedevilling the country and the enormous responsibility it brings, the Nigerian Army would continue to review its tactics and techniques to come up with strategies to overcome the country’s adversaries.

A statement yesterday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Division Jos, Major Ishaku Takwa, said Yahaya noted that enhancing troops’ capacity in basic tenets, ethics and rudiments of soldiering such as warrior ethos and regimentation would yield desired outcomes in theatres of operations.

Represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) Jos, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, the COAS charged commanders at all levels to redirect their efforts towards rejuvenating teamwork, training, discipline and leading by example to achieve the desired goal.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Department of Transformation and Innovation Army, Maj. Gen. Charles Ofoche, stated that the aim of the seminar was to sharpen the fighting spirit of troops and boost the tenets of basic soldiering, strict adherence to the customs, traditions and ethics of the Nigerian Army to enhance troops patriotic posture to defeat adversaries.

Ofoche said the department remains the hub for creative thinking and ideas for the Nigerian Army, charging participants to make good use of the opportunity to tap from the wealth of knowledge of resource persons and refresh their memories on regimentation and warrior ethos as pillars of military profession.

He said the Army profession has no place for cowardice, urging personnel to rise up to the security challenges by completely annihilating the enemies of the state.

Delivering their lectures on ‘Regimentation as a Critical Enabler For Combat Efficiency in the Nigerian Army’ and  ‘Enhancing Warrior Ethos in the Nigerian Army for improved combat effectiveness’, guest speakers, Brigadier General Hassan Lai (rtd) and Brigadier General Jon Temlong (rtd), said the primary function of a soldier was to fight and defeat the enemies of the state.

The speakers stressed that integrity, professional competence, transparency, teamwork, ethical performance as well as mental, physical and emotional attributes were necessary qualities that reinforce warrior ethos.
