Institute celebrates 70th anniversary with awards
The Methodist Theological Institute, Sagamu is celebrating its 70th Platinum Anniversary with the theme: “Methodist Theological Institute Sagamu at 70: Expanding and Consolidating”.
Addressing the media in Sagamu, Bishop, Methodist Church, Nigeria who is also the Chairman, Governing Council, Methodist Theological Institute, Sagamu, Rt. Rev. Jacob Ibikunle, said the institute that has been growing in leaps and bounds has produced a lot of ministers and is still counting.
He seized the occasion to call on Nigerians to embrace peace as he also charged the federal government to beef up security so that citizens can go about their businesses without fear or molestation.
“Most of time, we look at the ministers and leadership and heap blames on them for the woes in the country, but in actual fact, we are all guilty.
“Let us, therefore, look into our hearts and change our ways,” he enjoined.
The Rector of the school, Very Raphael Idialu, described the institute as a place where ministers are formed and reformed.
He said the consciousness of the anniversary celebration has been going around the country since September.
He disclosed that apart from the Eucharist service that took place on Sunday, awards would be given to eminent Nigerians on Tuesday.
Dignitaries expected at the occasion include Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, wife of former governor of Oyo State, Prophetess Esther Ajayi, among others, while the Guest Speaker at the occasion is the Bishop of Lagos and the Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, The Most Revd. Humphrey Olumakaiye.
He also made it known that among to be honoured would include the Prelate, Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Samuel Kalu Uche, the former Prelate, Methodist Church, Sunday Makinde, Kesington Adebutu, Kofi Mbang, among others.
He remarked that the grand finale on Wednesday will feature 15 inductees on the school’s wall of fame.
