Insurgency: VSF Donates N60 Million, Signs MoU With Three Hospitals In Borno, Yobe
The Nigerian Foundation for the Support of Victims of Terrorism under the auspice of Victims Support Funds (VSF) in the North East of the country; has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at the weekend with three hospitals for the treatments and care of victims of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno and Yobe States.
The MoUs, which were signed separately at the week by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Prof. Sunday Ochoche in Maiduguri and Damaturu presented cheques of N20 million each to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), State Specialists Hospital, Maiduguri and Sani Abacha Specialists Hospital, Damaturu.
The benefiting hospitals, according to Prof. Ochoche; included, the Borno State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the Gen. Sani Abatcha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, Yobe State.
At the signing ceremonies, Prof. Ochoche urged the management of the three hospitals to use the funds judiciously for the care of victims of Boko Haram attacks and bombings that had claimed over 20, 000 lives and displacement of 2.5 million persons.
His words: “The decision of the VSF is to make sure that all three hospitals are assisted to perform at their minimum best in treatments and taking care of all victims of Boko Haram attacks in the affected states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Plateau, and Taraba in the North East sub-region of this country.”
Prof. Ochoche however noted: “We at the Victims Support Funds are aware that we cannot meet all the challenges that your hospitals face in the treatment of victims of terror attacks, however, the presentation that we are making is to assist you deliver better services to victims of terror attacks that are usually brought to your hospitals.
We are aware that over time when these attacks occur, your facilities are over-stretched and therefore this kind of support is crucial for the provision of equipment, drugs and facilitates for improved service delivery to the victims,” He also described the “token financial donations” as just small elements of the good things that are in stock for the victims of Boko Haram attacks, adding that the foundation’s focus at the moment, was towards the full rehabilitation of women and the provision of a “sustained functional and qualitative education” for orphans of Boko Haram insurgency in the North East of this country.
Dr. Abdulrahaman Tahir, the Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Dr. Salisu Kwaya Kura of the Borno Specialist Hospital and Dr. Garba Musa Fika all signed the MoU on behalf of their hospitals. They all promised to use the funds for the purpose of its donation.
