Internet body canvasses broader access to bridge digital divide in Africa
The Internet Society (ISOC) has pledged to expand access in Africa with a view to bridging the low penetration on the continent.
The global non-profit organisation, which just celebrated its 30th anniversary, also called for an open, globally-connected Internet, stressing that community networks and exchange points were a cost-effective way to bridge the digital divide.
Regional Vice President of Internet Society in Africa, Dawit Bekele, made the call at the ongoing World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), holding from June 6 to 16 in Kigali, Rwanda. He said the organisation was poised to revolutionise the region digitally.
