IOM, NAPTIP others caution youths against irregular migration

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and National Orientation Agency (NOA) have urged young Nigerians to have faith in the country, instead of desperately seeking to leave through irregular channels.

Speaking at a town hall meeting by IOM in Lagos, the speakers insisted that Nigerian youths are not lazy, stressing that youths must have attitudinal change to carve a niche for themselves.   

With the theme: “Local Opportunities As An Alternative To Irregular Migration”, IOM Nigeria Project Officer, Awareness Raising, Cyprine Cheptepkeny said as an agency, it is open to collaboration and ideas on how to address migration agenda, which calls for support from all of us.” ­

Director, NOA, Lagos State, Waheed Ishola, said Nigeria is a blessed nation, but requires thinking deep to explore its abundant resources.

The former Chairman, NACCIMA Export Group, Kola Awe said government must create an enabling environment for youths to succeed, while the youths must imbibe some core values, as excellence, patience and diligence.

The Zonal Commander, NAPTIP, Ajanran Ganiu, said there is no greener pasture anywhere, noting that Nigeria is performing better than many West African countries. He said there are many interventions from the Federal Government, especially agriculture that the youths can benefit from.
