The Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on Enugu State governor-elect, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to use reconcile all feuding parties in the state.
Congratulating him on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, IPAC said the overwhelming votes he received showed the willingness of the people to forge a common front for the development of the state.
IPAC, in a statement by its state chairman, Afam Ani, said: “We have always known you as a man of peace and one who will do all in his ability to ensure peace and progress of his environment.
Having bestowed this honour on you, it is our appeal that you look beyond ethnic and party affiliations to be governor of all for the overall development of our state.”
Ani stated that Ugwuanyi’s victory was a well-deserved one, stressing that such manifested when 22 political parties, who are members of the IPAC adopted him as their consensus governorship candidate.
“We also marketed you as an unbeatable product after going through the list of other contestants to arrive at our choice. We, therefore, plead that you do not take this support for granted, but see it as something that should impact positively on the development of Enugu State and Nigeria in general,” IPAC said.
The group further congratulated the people of Enugu State for the peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections, even as it appealed to
candidates who disagreed with the process to seek legal resolutions.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly candidate for Udi North, Mr. Magnus Ozongwu, said yesterday that he would do all in his ability to recover his “stolen mandate” in the election.
Speaking to reporters in Enugu, he alleged that he won the election based on polling booth results from his party agents in the area and wondered why INEC returned his PDP opponent.
“My people of Eke, Ebe, Abor, Ukana/Awhum, Umulumgbe, Egede/Umuoa, Affa, Akpakwume/Nkono, and Okpatu wards voted overwhelmingly for me in the election. We have evidence to that effect; and I want to assure them that their effort will not be in vain as I shall seek legal and constitutional means to ensure that our mandate is recovered,” he said.
Calling on the electorate to remain calm, he said their attitude showed how prepared they were to protect democracy.
