The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has confirmed the suspension of the planned service withdrawal by petroleum tanker owners over the controversial e-call-up charges.
The move, aimed at de-escalating tension in the petroleum distribution chain, comes as a relief to Nigerians amid concerns over the potential impact of a strike on fuel supply.
IPMAN’s National President, Shettima Maigandi, told The Guardian that the Lagos State Government called for a roundtable with all relevant stakeholders to address the grievances surrounding the e-Call-Up system at the ports.
He said: “The suspension has been called off following the Lagos government’s decision to open conversation on the issue. The meeting is planned to take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, with all the stakeholders expected to be in attendance,” he said.
Maigandi explained that tanker owners agreed to shelve the proposed industrial action in the interest of national stability and in anticipation of a constructive dialogue that would lead to a lasting resolution.
The Guardian learnt that the union suspended the strike following the Lagos State government opening discussions with the union on the N12,500 electronic call-up levy imposed on tankers along the Lekki–Epe corridor.
In a memo issued to all zonal and depot unit chairmen, yesterday, the union said it suspended the strike because of a formal commitment by the state government to engage key stakeholders, including IPMAN’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), for an amicable resolution.
IPMAN’s National Secretary, James Tor, stated: “The above subject matter from the letter forwarded on June 13, 2025 refers. The Lagos State government has agreed to engage the NEC of IPMAN and NARTO for an amicable settlement of the proposed N12,500 levy.
“Sequel to the above, you are directed to suspend the strike and resume normal work to allow time for amicable resolution. We appreciate your cooperation and urge all IPMAN members to remain united and vigilant as we continue to engage the Lagos government in pursuit of a fair and favourable outcome.”
