Ishaku Hinges Development On Peace
TARABA State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, has described insecurity as the major factor responsible for the nation’s underdevelopment.
The governor, who made the observation yesterday at a dinner to mark the country’s 55 years anniversary, expressed the belief that the nationwould have moved forward had it not been for insecurity.
The state, he said decided to observe the anniversary in low key because of the demise of some Muslim pilgrims from the state in the stampede that recently occurred in Saudi Arabia.
Concerned by the insecurity presently facing the country, the state government, according to him, decided to avoid “large gathering” to prevent further “loss of lives.”
Citing both South Africa and Zimbabwe who did not get their independence on a platter of gold, he identified the way and manner Nigeria got her political freedom, which he said was on a platter of gold, as the reason why “we do not value our independence.”
The governor reiterated his determination to bring development to the state, provided the people allow peace to reign.
