Amosun nominates more commissioners

Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2015 election, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has called for a comprehensive review of education policy in the State.

He said such review, which should address multifaceted problems facing the sector should also look into improving the welfare and compensation packages for the teachers.

Isiaka, in a message to the Teachers on the occasion of the celebration of the World Teachers’ Day said he was saddened with the plight of the teachers as enunciated during the event and opined that the only way to address their plight was to “review the education policy of the state to protect the rights of the teachers and provide conducive working environment for them”.

The message, signed by the Director of Publicity of his campaign organisation, Comrade Ifekayode Akinbode, said, “the entire education policy in Ogun State is sick and gravitating towards precipice, if not reviewed”.

According to him, it is not enough for the teachers to call for the reinstatement of their members sacked by the government, describing the construction of Model Schools by the government as “misplaced priority”.

Isiaka observed that the government of Governor Ibikunle Amosun has not only relegated education to the background, but has failed to accord teachers’ welfare the priority it deserved for better performance.

He said: “We have at various times criticised the model schools being built in forests at heart-breaking costs; as responsible opposition, we have suggested to the government that instead of building these schools, our legacy schools that have produced eminent Nigerians, scattered in various towns and villages in the state should be rehabilitated”.

Meanwhile, Amosun has sent an additional list of three names to the State House of Assembly for screening as Commissioners.

They are Mr. Rotimi Durojaiye, Mrs. Nike Osoba and Mr. Adebola Gabriel Adeife.

The additional list brings the total number of Commissioner designates whose names had been sent to the State House of Assembly for screening to 19.
