Troops of the North-East Joint Task Force (JTF) under the Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have foiled a terrorist attack on the Logomani community of Ngala Local Council Area by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

They also rescued two kidnap victims, but “regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement,” a statement by the acting Media Information Officer for OPHK, Capt. Mohammed Goni, partly read.

According to Goni, troops of Operation HADIN KAI deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani under Sector One successfully contained a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists.

He stated that though the insurgents briefly exploited a section of the base’s defensive perimeter during an intense firefight, the troops rapidly regrouped, mounted a counter-offensive, and decisively expelled the attackers, inflicting significant casualties on them and forcing the surviving terrorists to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

Also, on July 7, 2026, troops of 115 Task Force Battalion, while conducting ongoing SAR operations in Askira/Uba Local Council Area of Borno State, rescued two additional abductees from a terrorist hideout and also recovered N1.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, as well as food items and other logistics believed to have supported terrorist operations.

He added that the rescued victims have since been evacuated to a secure location where they are receiving appropriate medical care and psychosocial support.

In another operation, troops of 232 Battalion, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended a notorious criminal in Gombi Local Council Area of Adamawa State, Goni stated, adding that a follow-up exploitation of the arrest led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

He added that the suspect and the recovered items were currently in military custody, while further investigations were underway to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that troops of 149 Battalion arrested two suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Mobbar Local Council Area of Borno State and recovered cash sums, a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, construction materials, household items and other supplies suspected to have been destined for terrorist elements.

Also, the military said that, as part of ongoing offensive operations, troops of 24 Task Force Brigade, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, conducted a clearance operation on known terrorist enclaves around Wulgo.

He said troops exploited the terrorists’ hasty withdrawal and recovered a sack containing assorted illicit drugs abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.

Additionally, six suspected ISWAP terrorists, alongside their families, surrendered to troops of 192 Battalion (Main) Sector 1 OPHK, the command said, adding that preliminary investigation revealed that the family escaped from Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide terrorist enclaves on the Mandara mountains in Gwoza LGA.

In the meantime, troops of the Nigerian Army have safely destroyed an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the Cross Kauwa–Kekeno–Monguno Main Supply Route (MSR) in Kukawa Local Council Area of Borno State.

According to sources, the device was discovered at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday by troops of the 123 Special Forces Battalion during a routine MSR scanning patrol at Dowoshi.

The troops were said to have immediately secured the area and alerted a reinforcement team comprising personnel of the 19 Brigade Military Search Team (MST) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts, which subsequently mobilised to the location and safely detonated the booby-trap without any casualties or damage.
