FOR her service to humanity and total dedication to the cause of the Bakassi people, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa has been recognised by the African Women In Leadership Organisation (AWLO).

Speaking at the event in Lagos, AWLO’s founder, Elisha Attai, said the organisation takes delight in sharing knowledge and expertise with accomplished women from all walks of life.

“We celebrate a political icon of our time, an epitome of an African woman, well skilled in leadership roles in the country. She has effectively silenced the myth that women should only be seen and not heard,” she said.

Also speaking, the Lagos State chapter coordinator of the body, Maureen Omeibe, said: “We choose to celebrate an exceptional woman in our midst on her 70th (birthday). She has been there for us over the years. We as an organisation are using this medium to reach out to women to be able to drive further our objectives as an organisation.”
