The Itsekiri ethnic nationality, yesterday, at a world press briefing, alleged fraud in the re-delineation exercise in the Warri Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the electoral body of providing fraudulent coordinates for the exercise.
They described the ward re-delineation exercise in Warri Federal Constituency as critical to the survival of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality. The event was attended by many Itsekiri leaders, women and youths, including the Ologbosere of Warri, Oma Eyewuoma, Brown Mene, A.S. Mene and several others.
In a communique at the end of the briefing, they stated that as members of a law-abiding ethnic nationality, they are not against the execution of the Supreme Court Order on the re-delineation of the Warri Federal Constituency.
They condemned and rejected the alleged bias and illegality associated with INEC’s execution of the said judgment, stressing that the technical sessions showed that the coordinates of the polling units and Wards created by INEC do not correspond with the actual locations on the ground.
They called on the Federal Government to set up an independent commission of inquiry to probe the actions of INEC on the re-delineation exercise that created phantom polling units and Wards in the Warri Federal Constituency.
They demanded that INEC officials and other public office holders found culpable of the ‘charade,’ regarded as polling units and Ward re-delineation in Warri Federal Constituency, should be appropriately punished, to act as a deterrent to others.
The Itsekiri ethnic nationality also demanded the immediate implementation of all judicial decisions in the Warri Federal Constituency, including the Court of Appeal judgment on the 10 Ward structure in Warri South Local Council, for which there is no appeal.
