Luxury retailers in Nigeria and across global markets have declared women central to the future of business, innovation and community growth, noting that the industry’s growing investment in women reflects recognition of their transformative influence on society and the economy.
The position was highlighted yesterday in Abuja as stakeholders gathered to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day during a press conference marking the 50th anniversary of the Swiss luxury watch brand, Raymond Weil, and the 19 Hole Group.
Speakers at the event noted that the growing attention to women within luxury spaces reflects a deeper understanding that empowering women not only celebrates their contributions but also unlocks wider economic and social gains for communities.
Director of Kare Showroom, Miss Onyekachi Okpara, said the theme of the celebration underscores the connection between empowerment and growth.
“This year’s theme, Give Today, reflects the idea that when we give opportunities to women, we also gain through stronger connections, opportunities and growth,” she said.
Participants observed that women’s influence cuts across industries and continues to shape innovation, leadership and societal progress.
Nigerian actress and film producer, Monalisa Chinda, described the celebration as an opportunity to honour both style and the strength of women, linking the symbolism of timepieces with the milestones women continue to achieve.
“A watch is more than an accessory. It marks moments, achievements and journeys. Much like women, it reflects grace, sophistication and enduring value. Time is not merely something we measure; it is something we cherish, invest in and through which we leave a legacy,” she said.
Also speaking, the Honorary Consul of Colombia to Nigeria, Maricel Romero Cantel Jamal, described the gathering as a rare moment where luxury brands unite not only for commerce but also to amplify the voices and influence of women.
“When you give a woman an opportunity, you gain development in your community. This is why empowering women is essential for innovation, growth and social progress,” she said.
Okpara further stressed that women remain indispensable to the functioning of society, describing them as a driving force behind stronger communities and better ideas.
“By empowering women through opportunities, we gain innovation and excellence. By supporting women-led initiatives, we build stronger communities, and by valuing women’s voices, we create better designs and ideas that meet the needs of families and society,” she added.
Country Director of Raymond Weil for the Middle East and Africa, Jose Ramos Amatrian, said the collaboration marks the beginning of a new chapter driven by the belief that women will continue to shape the future.
“We believe women are a powerful force for the future, and we are proud to support initiatives that recognise their impact,” he said.
Executive Director of Luxury Group Nigeria, Mr. Cezno Benson, noted that women deserve recognition every day for their influence on families, businesses and society.
“Women should be celebrated every day. From the empathy they bring to leadership to their resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, women contribute immensely to our lives and communities,” he said.
Also speaking, Executive Director of the 19 Hole Group, Mr. Zakaa Afolami Ajidahun, linked the relaunch of the Raymond Weil brand in Nigeria to a long-standing legacy dating back several decades.
“Raymond Weil was very popular in Nigeria in the 1970s and 1980s, and this relaunch represents a continuation of that legacy. At the heart of everything we do is the recognition that women play a central role in society and in shaping the world around us,” he said.
Across the conversations at the event, a shared message emerged: the celebration of women is no longer confined to symbolic gestures. For luxury brands and global businesses, women are increasingly recognised not only as inspirations of style and elegance but also as powerful drivers of innovation, economic value and the future of enterprise.
