Iwo-Day

In a remarkable display of unity and cultural pride, Ademola A.J Otolowo, a UK-based music promotion executive, joined forces with the indigenous people of Iwo Land in Diaspora to honour Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi (Telu 1), the Oluwo of Iwoland, during the grand celebration of the 32nd Iwo Day.

Accompanied by Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the CEO of Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited, Otolowo, renowned for his entertainment ventures in the United Kingdom, and Ajadi, musically oriented with Bullion Record Label in Nigeria, graced the occasion at Oluwo Stadium in Iwo, Osun State, on December 16, 2023.

The 32nd Iwo Day Celebration was marked by the initiation of a five hundred million naira (500,000,000) Development Appeal Fund.

The event, an annual week-long programme organised by the Iwo Day Planning Committee (IDPC), serves as a platform for the Iwo community, both at home and abroad, to come together, celebrate their heritage, and contribute to the town’s growth and development.

Noteworthy was the presence of Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun (retd) as the father of the day, and Mrs. Bola Aderibigbe, CEO of Bolade Travels, as the mother of the day.

Muniru Adeniyi Adisa, a representative of people in the diaspora, took on the role of chief launcher.

During the celebration, the Oluwo expressed gratitude for the support from the Iwo diaspora, emphasizing their significant financial contributions to various developmental projects in Iwo Land.

He underscored the importance of the Oluwo Stadium, highlighting that it was constructed with the funds of the indigenous people and not relying on government finances.

Encouraging the youth of Iwo, Oluwo urged them to cultivate creativity and develop entrepreneurial skills for independent success.

The Iwo Day Planning Committee, an integral part of the Iwo Board of Trustees (IBOT), was acknowledged for its ceaseless efforts throughout the year, ensuring the success of the annual celebration.

The 32nd Iwo Day Celebration served not only as a moment of reflection on the town’s progress but also as an occasion to commission newly completed developmental projects and honor those who have excelled in various fields.

Oluwo’s commitment to the well-being and empowerment of the youth resonated strongly, fostering a sense of pride and unity among the Iwo community, both at home and abroad.
