Vice Chairman Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Jonah David Jang has decried the incapacitation of security agencies in the country in combating the security challenges due to poor funding and pledged the commitment of the Senate to assist them in tackling the menace.
While stating that insecurity has compounded the economy of northern Nigeria, the former governor of Plateau, however, applauded President Muhammad Buhari for giving a directive to employ 10, 000 Police officers nationwide with a view to improving on the nation’s security.
Jang, who represents Plateau North in the Senate stated this during a visit to Plateau State Police Command, Department of State Security (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), where he called on the Federal Government to take proactive steps towards looking into the plights of Internally Displace Persons (IDPs) in the state.
The legislator noted with dismay how crisis victims in Plateau where the violence started before it metamorphosed to different parts of the country are left to cater for themselves and pleaded with President Buhari to consider IDPs in Plateau for rehabilitation as effort is being made to rehabilitate and re-unite Boko Haram victims in the North East into the Society.
“I am happy that the President has directed the recruitment of 10, 000 Police personnel across the country and I believe that is just for a start, the police need manpower, the police need serious training, the welfare of the security agencies need serious improvement.
