JCI offers free medical service to Rumuji community in Rivers State

Saturday was an eventful day for the President and members of Junior Chamber International, Garden City, Port Harcourt and the leaders and indigenes of the Rumuji Community in Rivers State, as members of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) embarked on a medical outreach to boost the health of residents of the community.

The medical outreach was done in accordance with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals #4 – Reducing Child Mortality; #5 – Improving Maternal Health and #6 – Controlling HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

The United Nations Organization encourages and supports non-governmental bodies to engage in projects and programmes in line with the MDGs in order to create sustainable development and make positive and progressive impacts in local communities. For years, JCI has been at the fore-front of living this dream and providing Development Opportunities across the world.

Junior Chamber International, Garden City in partnership with doctors from Crestfield Medical Foundation, Port Harcourt carried out various medical activities in the Rumuji Community. Medical check-ups were done, Body Mass Index of individuals, evaluated and drugs administered. Further recommendations were also made for people with special cases to the health centre. The people of the community expressed their delight after the project.

The king of the community HRH Oha Christain Elechi expressed his appreciation to the president and members of JCI. In his speech to the villagers, the President of JCI, Stanley Nwosu, encouraged them to take issues of their health seriously, as a healthy body translates to a highly motivated and wealthy individual. He also encouraged the women of the community to make sure their families are always healthy.

The medical outreach was graced by dignitaries from JCI, the National Vice President District B2, JCI Sen, Tunji Alade, representatives of the Executive Vice President Area B, JCI Amb. Adeniyi Balogun and the JCI Nigeria President, Amb. Seun Osikalu.
