Jigawa State Government has approved N1.4 billion in the last four months to its Ministry of Education to construct, renovate and equip 3,000 primary and post-primary schools across the state.
During the Correspondent Media Engagement at Manpower Development Institute in Dutse, yesterday, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Lawal Danzomo, said part of the money was expended on the construction and equipping of classroom blocks and renovation of some dilapidated schools.
Danzomo said: “We have succeeded in floating effective schools with 70 per cent teaching and learning devices. The essence was to allow access to education, as we de-board our schools to allow for more intakes of successful students.
“With these achievements, we are able to provide over 85 per cent needed infrastructure in our schools, ranging from buildings, learning and instructional facilities and recruitment of qualified teachers.”
On basic education, he said the state was able to equip most of the primary and post-primary schools with learning facilities.
The commissioner added: “All our 381 nomad schools have attained 70 per cent patronage under a conducive atmosphere. Also, plans have reach advance stage towards the establishment of junior and senior nomadic secondary schools.”
He also announced the establishment of nomadic mass literacy classes to integrate religious and Western education.
Shedding more lights on inadequate of manpower, he said: “We are on course, as we set machinery in motion, which will integrate our teachers, training and re-training of our teachers as well recruiting more competent hands to support the sector.”
