Jurists, lawyers, praise ex-appeal court judge Abdullahi at book launch

Justice Ridwan Maiwada Abdullahi of the Court of Appeal, Prof Yusuf Ali (SAN), among many others, on Tuesday agreed that the retired Justice of the appealate Court, Massoud Abdulrahman Oredola, while in office duly contributed to jurisprudence, judicial integrity and the development of Nigeria’s conventional and Islamic law in Nigeria.

The chairman of the event, Justice Ridwan said the gathering was not merely a book presentation but a celebration of an extraordinary judicial career defined by integrity, intellectual depth and selfless service.

According to him, Justice Oredola’s professional journey, spanning over four decades, represents the finest ideals of the legal profession.

“Today’s event is far more than the unveiling of a book. It is a celebration of a jurist whose life has been dedicated to the cause of justice, scholarship, integrity and humanity,” he said.

Abdullahi confirmed that Justice Oredola distinguished himself on the bench of Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal before his elevation to the Court of Appeal, where he earned national recognition for judgments renowned for their clarity, scholarship and sound legal reasoning.

“The decisions delivered by Justice Oredola continue to guide judges, legal practitioners, academics and students. His legacy is firmly etched in the annals of Nigeria’s judicial history,” he added.

The book, described by many as a scholarly publication meant to celebrate the life, career and enduring legacy of the retired appellate jurist, exposed the legal luminary’s glowing contributions to the nation’s legal system.

According to Yusuf Ali, Oredola was a jurist of repute who never compromised ethics and standard, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most respected judicial minds, whose commitment to justice, scholarship and ethical leadership has continued to shape legal thought long after his retirement from the appellate bench.

Also, the Chairman of the NBA Ilorin Book Presentation Planning Committee, AbdulFatai Bello, stated that the publication represented a major intellectual contribution to contemporary legal discourse, particularly on the relationship between law, Shariah and governance.

He hinted that the book assembled “diverse scholarly perspectives on pressing legal issues confronting the country and would serve as a valuable resource for judges, lawyers, policymakers, academics and researchers.”

The Grand Kadi of the State Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Abdullateef Kamaldeen, described Oredola as a judicial icon whose influence on the development of both common law and Islamic jurisprudence remains profound.

He said the retired jurist’s career demonstrated that justice remains the ultimate objective of every legal system, whether secular or religious.
