Kaduna Gov Elect, El-Rufai To Allow Financial Autonomy At Councils
Disturbed by the face-off between State Governors and Council Chairmen across the country over revenue sharing, Kaduna state Governor-elect, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai yesterday said the in-coming administration will not touch funds belonging to the 23 local council areas of the state.
According to him, the council areas will be allowed to run the affairs of their councils without any form of interference. El-Rufai spoke yesterday, through a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, saying that his government will work cordially with council chairmen in the state and allow the statutory financial independence granted them by law to hold sway.
The governor-elect spoke when the Forum of APC local government chairmen in the state paid him a congratulatory visit. Said he: “We must do what our people want and what will benefit them. And we must be firm in bringing positive change and coherent development in Kaduna state”.
“We will not touch a kobo or naira of local government councils in the state. The local government areas must be allowed to deliver development and real change.” “They must go and work; development is practical and not invisible.
We will not tolerate waste and mismanagement of public resources. We will also not tolerate incompetence from officials charged with promoting the well-being of our state.”
Besides, Alhaji Naibi Ibrahim Sambo, who led the delegation of APC chairmen Forum, said they were in Kaduna to congratulate the governor-elect and pray for his success as governor. Sambo explained that the people of Kaduna state voted for El-Rufai because they were convinced he would take the state to greater heights.

Let the regime of rule of law, law-and-order begin everywhere in the nation, local, state & federal. What El Rufai has stated here is very encouraging, furthermore at the federal level we should put teeth to the oversight function of all disbursed funds from the federation account – the lawlessness and local fiefdom encouraged by PDP must be banished for ever. It is a known fact that a lot of so-called “big men” and ex-generals routinely collect rent from local government allocation (whatever the state governor allows them to have)…this too must stop immediately and all crooks doing this pursued to the furthest extent of the law.
We will review and take appropriate action.
