Kano agency pledges equal space for 2027 political campaign

Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency

Ahead of the 2027 political campaign, the Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KASA) has vowed to ensure a level playing field for various interest groups, regardless of their inclinations.

Fielding questions from journalists on Thursday at Minjibir Golf resort, Director General of the agency, Kabiru Dakata, said both ruling and opposition parties will be provided space to showcase their campaign messages.
“Our agency, though new, was established by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to regulate outdoor advertisements. We are empowered to enforce, sanitise and generate revenue for the government.
“At the same time, the agency has the responsibility to provide equal opportunity to everybody irrespective of their inclination. Yet, we would be mindful of the content to ensure it aligns with our culture and religious norms.
“We will not deny any political party to showcase their campaign. Both ruling and opposition parties will be treated equally as long as they comply and conform with the regulations of the agency as stipulated by the law that established it,” Dakata said.

Regarding the agency’s revenue target, Dakata disclosed a plan to generate N1.5 billion in the last quarter of 2025, while setting a five-year revenue target.

He said the five-year Revenue Collection Targets aim to collect N3 billion in 2026, N5 billion in 2027, while in the second term of the Government, they would collect over N10 billion yearly.

Dakata hints that the agency is already collaborating with other outdoor advertising agencies to work together in order to regulate duplication of their jobs and ensure that they operate within the law.

KAKA boss explained that they have since commenced the registration of business owners who use signage advertisement posts, working in tandem with the State Urban Development Authority KNUPDA to regulate the indiscriminate posting of posters and other advertisement signs on public places.

“On the enforcement aspect, any violations of our guidelines would attract punishment of one month imprisonment, three months community services, or payment of fines ranging from N100,000 to N500,000.
“We would also correct the way and means some advertisement agencies use vulgar words and words that also go against the sensitivity of the community while placing their advertisements,” Dakata said.
