Kano approves over N4b for foreign scholarship, road repairs, others

Kano State Government has approved the release of N4,882,378,071 for the execution of projects in education, health, works and other sectors in the state.

The Ministry of Higher Education got the lion’s share of N3,577,288,540 approved for foreign postgraduate sponsorship of 550 candidates, who will study in India and Uganda.

Ministry of Works and Housing got approval for the release of N172,528,572 for settlement of outstanding liability for the completion of Kano State Liaison Office in Abuja and over N111 million for repair and maintenance works on Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Obasanjo Flyovers in Kano Municipal Local Council.

Addressing the press at the end of the fifth State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, Commissioner for Information, Baba Dantiye, said the council also approved N544,321,168 to Ministry of Education for payment of outstanding students’ feeding in public secondary boarding schools.

Dantiye added that another sum of N79,284,537, was approved to facilitate the renovation of 11 closed boarding schools in the state, while N131,500,000 was approved to conduct 2023 internal examination.

Similarly, N69,039,407 was approved to the Ministry of Health for the procurement of HIV rapid test kits by Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS, while N15, 274,640 was approved to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for the conduct of yearly mosquito vector and rodents control in the state.

Meanwhile, the SEC directed the state’s Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Auditor General to conduct biometric data verification for all state and local councils staff and pensioners.

Besides, the council constituted a state and local council payroll standing committee to ensure prudent salary administration in the state.
