Kano state house of Assembly has passed motion of urgent attention seeking the intervention of Kano state government on the United States of America Congress Bill against the leader of Kwankwasiyya movement Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Worried by the gravity of sanction muted by US Bill where the name of Kwankwaso conspicuously featured, the state legislature called on the attention of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to deploy necessary diplomatic and bilateral means to quash the sanction.

The proposed U.S. congressional bill that mentions Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso among individuals who could face potential sanctions, including visa restrictions and asset freezes.

In a motion moved by member representing Kiru constituency Hon. Usman Tasiu, during Tuesday plenary described Senator Kwankwaso as “a dedicated public servant whose leadership has positively impacted the lives of Kano residents.”

During the season presided over by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, Tasiu further stressed the former governor’s record in promoting peace, supporting education, and driving infrastructural development for both Christians and Muslims in the state.

“He (Kwankwaso) has consistently acted as a unifying figure in Nigeria and has maintained a strong stance against all forms of violence,” Tasiu claimed.

After further legislative deliberation, the speaker Falgore pronounced the unanimous adoption of the motion.

The speaker emphasized the urgent call on the Kano State Government to take appropriate action in response to the U.S. bill to dismiss what they described as wrong impression against Kwankwaso.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement had rejected the proposed Religious Freedom and Accountability Act 2026 (HR 7457) in the United States Congress, citing the leader of the movement and former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for a possible visa ban and freezing of assets.

Reacting to the US Bill introduced by Congressmen Riley Moore and Chris Smith recently, the Kwankwasiyya movement insisted that the allegations against its leader were unfounded, misleading, and inconsistent with Kwankwaso’s verifiable public record.

A statement signed by the spokesperson of the movement, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, dismissed the allegations raised in the proposed sanction, insisting that Kwankwaso’s records stand firmly against violence, extremism, and terrorism.

According to the release, ” We received with grave concern reports that a proposed Bill before the United States Congress, the Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act 2026 (HR 7457), allegedly references the name of our leader and principal, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in connection with claims of ‘severe religious freedom violations’.

“For over 30 years, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has served Nigeria at the highest levels as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, two-term Governor of Kano State, Minister of Defence, Senator of the Federal Republic, and Presidential Candidate.
