The Kano State Government has extended the deadline for recertification of Certificates of Occupancy (CofOs) by an additional 60 days.

Before the extension, the exercise, which began on November 25, 2024, was fixed to end by January 31, 2025. With the 60-day grace, the property owners are given up to April 1st, 2025, to renew their documents.

The government in a statement issued by the acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, Muhammad Musbahu Yahuza, commended the public for their overwhelming response to the recertification process.

However, he acknowledged concerns regarding the initial timeframe and assured property owners that the extension would provide ample opportunity to complete the process.

The government urged all land and property owners who have not regularised their ownership documents to take advantage of the 60-day extension to do so; failure would result in forfeiture of property rights under existing regulations.

The recertification is being conducted at the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) office, and property owners are advised to comply within the new timeframe to avoid legal consequences.
