Kano increases scholarship allowances for 40,494 indigents

Kano State Executive Council has approved 50 per cent upward review of the scholarship allowances for its indigenes studying in various Nigerian institutions.

The SEC released N865,449,150 to the state’s scholarship board as outstanding allowance and logistics for the payment of the students across the 44 local councils in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, who briefed newsmen on the outcome of the weekly meeting in Government House, explained that 40,494 indigent students would benefit from the scholarship.

According to him, the outstanding scholarship for the 40,494 internal students from Karaye, Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Kano is N836, 269,150, while logistics for the payment is N29.18 million.

He further revealed that eight local councils, with 3,094 students, will have N61,463,950 outstanding allowances and N4.02 million as logistics, while nine local councils with 3,494 students will receive N71,242,800 as outstanding allowances and N4.02 million for logistics.

Garba also put the allowances and logistics for the 4,015 students from Rano Emirate with 10 local councils at N78,351,800 and N4.02 million respectively, while the rest nine local councils with 4,260 students will receive N86,236,600 as outstanding allowances and N4.02 million for logistics.

Eight local councils with 26,086 students will receive N538.974 million and N13.1 million for logistics.

In another development, the state government has declared Monday, August 1, 2022 work-free day to mark the beginning of 1445 Islamic New Year (Hijrah).

Ganduje, in a statement signed by Garba, congratulated all Muslims in the state on the spiritual significance of the occasion that also called for self-assessment.

He urged them to use the holiday to seek divine forgiveness and pray against security challenges and for improvement in the general wellbeing and progress of the state and the country in general.

The governor assured residents of his administration’s readiness to assiduously continue to deliver on its promise of improving their living standard through execution of people-oriented programmes and projects.

He urged those that are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Card (PVC), so they could exercise their franchise in the forthcoming general elections.

The first lunar month of the New Islamic Year, Muharram, commences on Saturday, July 30, 2022
