Kano renames state varsity after Maitama Sule

As NUJ chapter loses chairman
In an effort to immortalise its sons and daughters who have made impact in the state and the country at large, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has renamed the Northwest University, Kano after the late Yusuf Maitama Sule.
It is now the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano. Addressing journalists yesterday, Commissioner for Information, Youths and Culture, Muhammad Garba, disclosed that the resolution to rename the institution was reached at an extraordinary executive council meeting held on Wednesday.
He noted that council’s decision was borne out of Sule’s contributions to the development of Kano, the North and Nigeria at large.“Council also approved the renaming of Dawaki Road where Sule’s home is located to Yusuf Maitama Sule Road while the Yusuf Maitama Sule link road has been renamed Jafaru Dan Mallam link road.
Meanwhile, Chairman, Kano chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abduljalal Haruna is dead. He died on Wednesday at his Giginyu residence after a protracted illness. The late Abduljalal, 53, who left behind two wives and nine children, has been buried at the Tarauni Cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.
