Kano targets reduction of maternal, newborn death
Determined to address the increased rate of maternal and child mortality in Nigeria, the Kano State Government said it is committed to implementing the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII).
The state government assured the public of its willingness to implement a strategic solution to the mortality of pregnant women in the state.
Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Aminu Bashir, who received the document on behalf of the government, expressed optimism that the government would implement the document.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the engagement program has enabled a deep dive into the root causes of our high mortality in maternal and newborn children rate in the state.

Bashir believed addressing the monster in the house was not the sole responsibility of the state government alone, therefore sought the concerted support of partners and the Federal Government to crash the menace in Kano.
The National Coordinator, MAMII programme, Dr. Doyin Adeyanju, explained the co-created content specifically designed for Kano and dissected challenges on access to facilitate thematic areas.
Adeyanju stressed that with the commitment of the Kano government to the holistic implementation of the document, there would not be any reason for pregnancy to turn to the death sentence.
Governance Coordination and Sub National Engagement lead, office of the Sub-Coordination of the programme, office of the Minister of Health, Dr. Ashiru Adamu Abubakar, said Kano has 18 local government areas with highest record of maternal and child mortality in Nigeria.
He said the Federal government programme was specifically developed to evaluate the cause and find realistic solutions to the challenges at the various locations.
