KANO State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has said 70 tricycle ambulances would be distributed to 10 local councils to assist pregnant mothers.

Ganduje disclosed this in Kano during the flag-off of training for 1,963 traditional birth attendants in the state.

He said the tricycles would be used to transport women in labour to nearby hospitals, adding, “when our women are in labour, most of them don’t have means of getting to hospitals.”

The governor said the gesture was part of government’s commitment to provide effective and qualitative healthcare services in rural communities.

Ganduje reiterated the commitment of the state government to deliver functional and qualitative healthcare services to the people.

He said the training of the birth attendants would enhance their skills in safe delivery of babies as well as curb mother-to-child transmission of diseases.

“This training is targeted at eradicating maternal and infant deaths in the state,” he added.
